| Abbott 'Monarch' ukulele-banjo c.1930 SOLD! | |||||
| An incredibly rare pre-war
Abbott Monarch with slots, made by Jack Abbott under
licence to Hawkes & Son of London. This is a fantastic deep spinner example; the photos show a few marks on the nickle plating - this is just dust. The nickel plating is unmarked. The neck is straight and made of mahogany with the number 5185 stamped on the back of the peghead. The words 'Hawkes and Son London, MONARCH' are clearly visable just above the heel. There is no fret wear and the fingerboard is in excellent condition with the three dot inlay. The instrument plays as it should do with that unmistakable 'Abbott' sound. Abbotts are very very light and easy to play. All original nuts, bolts and shoes. The resonator is convex and has the white binding and white button on the back. This instrument is in fantastic condition and is a pleasure to hold and play. It comes with a vintage hard case. You just don't see these too often for sale. I have seen Monarchs sold for £6000 and £7000 so grab yourself a bargain. |
